I don’t know if there are any direct references in the movie to that. The Matrix had a plug in your head, so it kind of made sense when they would die. Avatar seems more like it runs on brain waves and not a direct link. Though I imagine if you were a person with enough of a susceptibility to suggestion and you died violently enough in the Na’vi world, you might die in the human world too.

I was refering to your comment where you say that you would look good as an “avatar”. The thing that you control is an “avatar”, but you would look like a “Na’vi”, so you would make a good looking “Na’vi”.

I was just clarifying the terms being used in hopes to educate those that were not in the know.

Also I had a few drinks before I saw the movie and I do not remember if it works on “The Matrix” rules. If you die in the Matrix, you die in real life. Any takers on this?

ok, let’s calm down with the technicalities. Jim’s question totally refers to being an avatar in the Na’vi world, unless you know of many other worlds where people live in trees and ride pterodactyls and bang with their hair.
I watched Surrogates this weekend, so I know all about avatars and their sucking. I do understand the aspect that you can have the ability to live in a fun new world, but I don’t see why you would want to experience life VIA computer. With no chance of “getting hurt” or sick– all that stuff adds some excitement to life. Though, Jim would probably sleep better at night knowing he wasn’t going to die during his daily life activities.

And if I ever did enter the (a) world with that of an avatar, be it as a Na’vi or something else, I would be sure to kick your ass first thing, Phil.

Umm the blue people are Na’vi… an Avatar is an image or likeness that usually represents someone in a “vitural environment”. In this movie the main character’s “Avatar” was representing him in his real world environment, which was Pandora, but essentially it is still the same concept.

I’m torn. I mean, blue is definitely my color, so I would look really good as an Avatar– but I think I’m just too lazy. Running around jumping from tree to tree, swinging from vines, battling robots to save my land… Ugh, it all seems so tiring. Then to think they MIGHT not have cocktails afterwards? And finally to top it all off, you’re banging people with the same cord you attach to your pet?! I’m with Dave (not dave)– Fuck Pandora! Creepy bastards….

Though the strip does make it look like a beautiful place to vacation to…

Fuck Pandora! If you go bald you can’t do shit! Not that I’ll go bald. I do love the characters today. For those who haven’t seen Avatar, it’s Dances with Wolves except everyone is blue and they’re fucking huge.
