Also, it is quite as safe in any given accident as any other car -- designed specifically to maintain a safe "cage" around the passengers (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJHpUO-S0i8). The Smarts ARE pretty ugly, but then so were the old VWs, which were orders of magnitude less safe, and we came to think them 'cute.' So save your hatin' for a car that deserves it (if any do). The Smart is a city car, well suited to that environment, and better FOR it. Now the Scion Xb, on the other hand...
